RED CROSS SOCIETY
EASTERN HARBOUR BRANCH At a well-attended meeting at East* bourne, an Eastern Harbour branch of ths Red Cross Society was formed. The Mayor of Eastbourne (Mr. S. F. Fisher) presided. The branch will carry on the general work of the society, and take over much of the work in regard to relief. The officers elected were:—President, the Mayor of Eastbourne; vice-presidents, the Rev. W. Raine, Mrs. Mackay, and Messrs. Hornig, Varney, and Walker; executive, the Mayoress (Mrs. Fisher), Mesdames Walker, Hoggard, Chittey, Varney,Richards, Poole, Jenkinson, Andrews, Jones, Wise, Kent, and Mr. Goldingj hon, secretary, Miss E. Jackson; hon. tree* surer, Mr. Lenahan. The meeting was addresed by Mr. W. Nash, M.P., in behalf of Lower Hutt'relief, and Mr. C. H. Chapman, MJ?., ale« spoke. The secretary of the society (Mr. Galloway) outlined the work of the society. Following the meeting, committees were set up to handle various matters bucE as relief, home visiting, food and fuel, ths purchase of supplies, dealing with, difficulties that might arise, and finance. It was decided to hold a clothing drives, and to establish a depot for the receive of goods.
