ANNUAL RECEPTION

ROYAL EMPIRE SOCIETY AMONG THE GUESTS (From "The Post's" Representative.) LONDON, 2nd July, An annual function that affords pleasure to a large number of people of all ages is the reception of the Royal Empire Society, which sow ii always held at the Imperial Institute, South Kensington, instead of at trie Natural History Museum, as in yearg gone by. The reception took place on 25th •June, and was attended by notable people from the overseas Dominions, as well as by a number of men and women of eminence in the Mother Country. Members of the Council stood on two sides of the reception hall, which was banked with choice roses and delphiniums. The following were present to welcome the guests: Sir Archibald Weigall (deputy-chairman of Council), Earl Buxton, Kir Harry Brittain, Sir Charles M'Leod, Bt., Sir James Mills, Sir Harry Wilson, General Sir Reginald Wingate, Bt, Mr. Ralph S. Bond, Mr.. W. Bulkeley-Evans, Mr. Ivor B. Burnaud, Mr. B. T. Campbell, M.P., Sir James Cooper, Lady Davson, Major Sir Humphrey Leggett, Sir James LeighWood, Mr. A. M. Michie, Major H. Hely-Pounds, Mr. Robert Rankin, Colonel the Master of Sempill, Lieuten-ant-Colonel Sir William Wayland, From the reception hall the guestspassed downstairs to the galleries of:, the Empire, and on to the section where-' dancing was a great attraction. Dancing enthusiasts did not leave off till past midnight, and the floor was al-' ways full. In the Jehangir Hall there was an. excellent concert given under the direction of Mr. P. Mavoa IbW, the artists being Miss Garda Hall' (soprano), South Africa; Mr. Henry Wendon (tenor); Mr. Leslie Holme'?' (baritone), Canada; Miss Eileei'M'Court (recitalist), South Africa;Mr. Cecil Harrington (entertainer).The hall was filled to overflowing bypeople who preferred music to dane« ing. Further, there were shown in. the Cinema Hall pictures and posters, including H.R.H. the Prince of "Wales'* South African tour and CanadiaA ranch, collected during her recent Empire tour by Miss M. Winifred Gay, who gave a short address. Films frer*; shown, too, by arrangement with. th« Empire Marketing Board. In the Central Court the String Baud of H.M. Grenadier Guards played til! 11.30 p.m., giving a delightful pro-' gramme, which included Selections front grand opera and light dance music. Refreshments were liberally provided,, with plenty of strawberries for the several thousand guests, and the floraldecorations were in the best tests, carrying out a scheme of pink and blue.
