An Atlantic City, New Jersey, itport states that one is known to have been drowned and two others are misting as a result of a series of mountainous 'waves which suddenly swept the beaches of that watering place—th« most popular in .America. Nearly 159 bathers were rescued. The waves are believed to have bee* caused by a storm area. They struck the most, congested section of the beach, lifting surprised' bathers on -their crests and sweeping them seaward. Thousands of others ashore stood b.-r horrified. Lifeguards) undaunted bY the- raging sea, rowed to the rescue of the struggling bathers. One boat, loaded with eight eon rescued persons, was capsized by the heavysea. , The' guards succeeded in righting the craft and drawing the bather* aboard again.
