ACCIDENTS AT SEA.
The petition presented to Parliament by Mr. P. J. O'Began, of Wellington, asking that shipping, companies be liable to damages in respect;of injuries to sea-travelling passengers.- has been considered by the N to Z Committee of the House of Bepresentatives, which reported back to the House of Bepresentatives yesterday afternoon that it had no recommendation to make.
Commenting on the recommendation of the Committee, Mr. H. G. 8.. Mason (Beform, Auckland Suburbs) said^that probably the Committee had considered that the passenger made a contract under the terms sets out on the ticket issued by the companies, but the passengers had no option. There was no reason at all why-the companies should not bo liable. It was no excuse to say that the Dominion- was waiting for some other country to move.
BOUNTY TO ONAKAKA WOKKS. In a return furnished to the House of Bepresentatives yesterday, it was stated that the bounty paid to the Onakaka Iron and Steel Co.,- Ltd., amounted to £9836. The bounty had been paid in respect of 9044 tons' 17cwt of pig iron manufactured by the company. •
