LYCEUM CLUB

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

The annual meeting of the Wellington Lyceum Club, held on AVednesday night at the club rooms, Saywell Building, Lambton quay, must have been somewhat of a record in the way of attendance of members—there was such a large number present—and of interest in each detail of the club's affairs. The annual report, and balancesheet were read and passed. Mrs. Clark (president) spoke of tho difficulties of the times, and asked each member to endeavour to get one new member and thus help to place the club on a thoroughly comfortable basis. The committee throughout the year had endeavoured to make the rooms as attractive as possible, while the work of tho Circles had been excellent and of ■jjroat value.

Votes of thanks to retiring officers and to the committee were passed with acclamation, and appreciation expressed of the outstandingly good work done. Special mention was made of the work of tho president, who was ro-clcctcd without opposition.

Several proposed alterations to rules were discussed, but these wore postponed till the present financial stringency is over. An amendment to the rule governing circles was made, as making the position, of leaders more clear.

Mrs. H. S. Hadfield, in thanking tho members for electing her as a vicepresident of the club, spoke also of her appreciation of their kindness in allowing her to hold a Braille class in tho clubroom. Both she and those who learned to write Braille were voluntary workers who were anxious to help tho blind people in every possible way, and give them pleasure by the reading of letters, stories, and books in Braille. The election of officers for the year resulted in the re-election of Mrs. J, •I. Clark as president, Mrs. H. S. Had(iekl as vice-president, Miss Langdon as honorary secretary, Mrs. Coad as honorary treasurer, and MesdamcK Chirnside, Semple, Short, and Miss Fagan as [Committee members.
