OBITUARY

MRS. HAMILTON NIMMO

The death occurred yesterday o£ Mrs. Hamilton. Nimmo, of Lowry Bay, a prominent social worker of this city and one who enjoyed a large circle of friends. Mrs. Nimmo for many years was a prominent worker and actively associated with the AVomen's Christian Temperance Union in both the central and AVellingtoii South branches of that body. During the war she was appointed Dominion organiser of the W.C.T.U. for the making and supplying of warm clothing and comforts for the men of the Royal Navy and Royal Mercantile Marine. She was also responsible for raising large sums of money on behalf of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society for the provision of comforts for sea-faring men who were prisoners of war. These funds were sent direct to London, and administered by the Dowager Lady Dimsdale for the British and Foreign Society, and were the means of bringing cheer and comfort to hundreds of sailor men. For many years Mrs. Nimmo was associated with Mr, Hamilton Nimmo in tho leadership of tho AVellington branch of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society—now known as the British Sailors' Society. To many naval ratings and men of the mercantile marine afloat and ashore in various parts of the world her kindly nature and good work will be long remembered. Mrs. Nimmo was also an official visitor, as representative of the above organisations, at the AVelliiigton Hospital. During that time she assisted in administering the "Debt to Seamen's Fund," donated by tho sheep farmers of New Zealand, in so far as the inmates of the hospital were concerned. Born in 1573, of Scottish descent, Mrs. Nimmo's early life was spent in Scotland, and there too she was actively engaged in various forms of social work. The late Mrs. Nimmo is survived by her husband, Mr. Tlamilton Nimmo, and two sons, Messrs. R 11. and A. J. Nimmo.
