SYMPHONY CONCERT NEXT SATURDAY.
The second symphony touccit of the season lakes* place in the 'lown Hall on Satuiday, at S p.m. The Wellington Symphony Orchestra, now virtually in its fourth year of existence, is considered by critical musicians to have been trained by its founder 'and conductor, Mr. Leon de Mauny, to a higher standard of local performance than has ever been known in Wellington.. Much, .then, is' looked for in next Saturday's concert. In again playing the Cesar Franck 'Symphony in D Minor, the conductor is acceding to , a general request following on the work's first New Zealand performance under his baton last year, Another item of outstanding interest on1 the forthcoming programme is Handel's 7th Organ Concerto, re-ochestrated by Mr. Bernard F. Page, andI the solo part taken by he City Organist I himself. - Other items of' particular interest are Nicolai's, "Merry Wives of Windsor" Overture, the concert arrangement of "waltzes 'from 'Richard Sfrauss's opera, "The Rose Cavclier," and .Tchaikovsky's glittering "Italian Caprice." A vocal item, Bizet's "Toreador Song," should bo particularly popular, especially so as it is to be sung by Mr. Rex. Harrison. The booking indicates that there will-be a full house, and,all intending to be present will be advised to make reserves at once. The box plan is at The Bristol.
