The House of Representatives met at J8.30 p;m. to-day.
The Minister of Labour gave notice that he will introduce the Eent Bestriction Extension Bill.
. Mr. W. J. Jordan (Labour, Manukau) gave notice to ask the Minister in . Charge of. the State .Advances Department whether he would give consideration to the dilapidated state of a large number of .houses on which State Advances loans had been advanced,. and which needed painting; but the mortgagors were unable .to.have the work done on account of unemployment' or : low ■wages, and -whether arrangements would be made to have the work done and so offer employment to many painters as well as prevent tho further deteriora- : tion of the property. Mr. J. S. Fletcher (Independent, Grey Lynn) intimated that ho will ask if the Government's attention has been drawn to the Press' cable from London to the effect that the Bank, of England has'decided against a .policy, of general ■wage cuts, and whether, following that example, the Government will reverse its' policy Jand ;ioauiediat.e]y restores the wage cuts in, New Zealand. Notice was given of the appointment of the various-Select. Committees for the session. Mr. B. Semplo (Labour,. Wellington East) gave notice to ask , the Kime Minister whether the ' Government would favourably consider the question of holding a national lottery.to raise ' £100,000 to promote New Zealand's share in the cancer research campaign. Mr. W.E. Barnard (Labour/ Napier) intends to introduce the Amusement Tax Amendment Bill. „, ~ ~ Mr. J. O'Brien (Labour, Westland) gave notice of his ■ intention to introduce the1 Invalids Pension Bill.' Mr. Walter Nash (Labour, Hutt) is to ask .the Prime Minister whether he ■will arrange for the supply of forms for use of mortgagors who desire to apply for relief under the Mortgagors' Belief Act.,LOST TIME ON KELIEP WORKS. ■ The Leader of the Labour Party (Mr. H. B. Holland)'"asked: the Minister of Labour "whether' it was "a fact-'that a number of ielief workers were not permitted to make up time lost through •wet -weather.' Mr. Holland asked Lif the Minister would see that steps were taken by the Unemployment Board to -■ ensure that in every case men would be able to :mako up the time. _ . The Minister-said there was no objection to the time lost being made up during the week.during which the men,did not ordinarily-work. Tho whole matter was one for- the' local bodies concerned*; .
