SHIP OF FORTUNE BALL
All preparations arc completed for the "Ship 'of Fortune" ball on Friday and a great success is promised. The Plunket Society endeavours to make only one large a.ppeal a year from its Wellington Central branch, and the ball is this year's effort. The committee has been strengthened by many outside helpers who arc giving most generous service in the many different forms of organising that arc necessary. ; The decorative scheme, which is the main idea of the ball, has been executed with practically no expense, owing to the generosity of firms -which, have provided material. AH the designs are tho work of Mrs. James Hannah, who has-had tho assistance of many helpers. Professional and amateur dancers have put much time and thought ml o tho production of the cabaret items. Amongst them are Miss Joan Beere, Miss G. Helen Gardner, Mr. T. R. MacGregor, with his ballot of eight girls; Mr. David Devitt, who lias trained eighteen dancers, with a dance duo featuring Miss Grace Booth and Mr. Pat Ward. Different members of the Plunket Society have donated the general expenses of the ball, so that the price paid for each ticket will-go straight'into the Society's funds. The supper which will be excellent; has also been given, and the supper attendants will be a largo detachment of Girl Guides,, who should make picturesque waitresses. Mrs. 0. Eiehardson, will be in charge of the main supper room: (the concert chamber), and Mrs. M'Eldowney and Miss Cameron of the cabaret tables downstairs. A buffet, serving claret cup, savouries and sandwiches, will be on the main floor in charge of Mrs. D. Aikcn, Mrs. H. Hall, Mrs. C. White, and Miss Barnejt. Mrs. Bernard Wood has done tlio organising work of all committees ,as chairman. Miss Elsmie Ward is secretary and treasurer. The ball will commence at 9 sharp, and it is hoped that the guests on tho "Ship of Fortune" will be punctual, so that a still audience may be assured for the novelty dance items. The ball will be attended by Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral a,nd Lady Bledisloe, accompanied by a party from Government House. . ' . ■
