LIABILITY TO PAY

UNDER-' UNEMPLOYMENT BILL

1 OBLIGATION TO LEVY AND TAX

■ As some doubt appears to exist in tho minds of many people as to their obligations under the Unemployment Amendment Bill in respect to tho payment of unemployment taxation, tho following brief resume of the proposals will be of assistance: —

All males of the ago of twenty years and. over will be required to pay £1 general unemployment le.vy in quarterly instalments of ss, tho first payment on Ist August next. Exemptions aro made in tho'case of war pensioners rcceiv-. ing allowances for total disablement, old age pensioners, Natives, and others specified in the Act. The board also has power to grant partial exemption in certain1 cases.

.■Whether liable for the general levy or not, all wago or salary earners, male and female, will be liable to tho emergency unemployment, cliargo of Id for •each 6s 8d or part thereof included in tho wages of salary received.' Females in private domestic service and relief workers whose wages are paid wholly out of the Unemployment Fund, are exempted from tho emergency -charge. Income derived from. any source other than salary or wages will bo liable to tho 'emergency tax. In ; tho ease of females not in receipt of salary or wages; ineomo of £250 and over will be subject to taxation. ' Only those exempted from payment of the levy a^e to bo exempt from the omergency charge on income. ' •■ ■ . Company profits will not bo liablo to' unemployment taxation.
