At least one Auckland' bank found it necessary on Friday to impose a limit cm the number of half-crowns it issued to firms for paying the weekly wages bill. Since tho 10 'percent, .cvt ■■'in wages became general, there is a greater demand for silver, because many whose salary used to bo computed in even pounds now ;fincl silver coins' in their pay envelopes. "We are trying to meet the wishes ofour clients as far as possible, but wo would also like them to nieet us, even at some little inconvenience to themselves," said the accountant of the bank which has .imposed restrictions ou the issue of half-crowns. "The position is that Wo aro trying to build lup adequate supplies of half-crowns to assist our clients when tho Christmas rush sets in. If we did not take such a precaution 'during tho slack part of tlac year we would not be able to cope with, the situation later.
