Taranaki exploited the short punt over the line with quick following-up with success, and passing among the backs was good. Southland was always dangerous in the loose, as the team showed in the first minute of the game,' when a run-away try was scored. Taranaki gave a vastly improved ;display compared with the match against Wellington.
