AUSTRALIAN OVERSEAS SHIPOWNERS.

Mr. C. E. 'Whitaker has been unanimously elected chairman of the Overseas Shipping Representatives of Australia, succeeding Mr. W. G. de Gruchy, retiring chairman, formerly of Wellington. Mr. Whitaker is managing director of W. G. Deuchar and Co., Ltd., Sydney. He was chairman of the association in 1029-30, and played a prominent part in the formation of the Australian Oversea Transport Association, a body representing producing, exporting, importing, and shipowning interests, which has been instrumental in Btabilising freights for the past two years. Mr. de Gruchy has been elected vice-chairman.
