THE TEA MARKET.
There was a strong demand for all grades at the Colombo tea auctions last week. Common teas showed an advance of one to two cents, and mediums 4 to 6 cents. Quality was said to be showing slight improvement. This week's sale offerings are to be reduced to about two million pounds, and firm rates nrc expected to prevail. At the Calcutta sales last week the tone was again irregular,, and prices in many cases were a little easier. The Java market is improving with the latest advance of 2; to 3 cents.; This is in anticipation of general improvement in quality.-. ,- . •
