NURSES' MEMORIAL FUND

An entertainment in.aid of the New Zealand Nurses' Memorial Fund was held at the Nurses' Home, Wellington Hospital, on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance, and the result should be a substantial addition to the fund. A feature of the entertainment was the holding of, a'mock Court. \ The fund was created as a memorial to i those nurses who died during the. Great Wiir, and to the nurses who died during the influenza epidemic of 1918. From this fund annuities and assistance are granted to those nurses who are in aed.'During the past year, twenty-two annuitants received benefits. The amount disbursed in annuities and relief last year amounted to -£1089 19s, as against £1176 18s in the previous year, but tlie latter amount included a Government Subsidy, which, owing to financial pressure, has been withdrawn ■ this year. The patroness of the fund-is Her Excellency Lady Bledisloe, the president is Sir H. Lindo Ferguson, C.M.G., and; the vicepresidents are Mr. James Begg (Dunedin) and Dr. William Young (Wellington).

During 1930, 22% acres were added to the area set apart for sports and games in the Royal parks of Britain.
