SHOULD SEEK MANDATE

(Received 10th' July, 10 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. The Speaker, Mr, N. J. O. Makin, speaking on the Financial Emergency Bill, denounced the Government, and said that it should seek a mandate from the people for,its change of policy. Rather than support the Government in its latest move he would leave public life.

Mr. Makin was formerly an associate, of the Lang group in the Federal House, but, after being elected to the Speakership, refused to follow Mr. Beasley and others in their resignations.
