CUTTING OUT DEAD WOOD.
An opportunity for a saving in."departmental costs was suggested to'tho Government this morning by Mr. ln. Lang&tono (Labour, ' Waiinarino-)j-speaking in the Houso of Representatives. It had boon stated that some officials had been loaned from1 their departments to assist in the, administration of unemployment relief, 'and Mr. Langstone said that if they.could be spared for that purpose there was no need for them in the departments. "Tho Government could cut a good deal of dead wood from the top of some, of the-Departments, ?' ho said. "Many of the higher paid officers are only ornaments."
