AMERICAN UNIVERSITY DEBATERS

Keen interest has been,aroused jn Wellington by the arrival of three representatives of Oregon University in the sphere of debating. New Zealand is the first country to be visited in a tour, ■which includes also Australia. Oregon University is one of the ■, leading universities of America, with a roll of 3500 students taking a great variety of subjects. All three members of the team have particularly high scholarship records in addition to the debating qualifications which enable them to represent so large a body of.students. Two of them, Messrs. Pfaff and. Miller, are students of law'and Mr. Wilson.is a student in journalism/an important branch of the syllabus of Oregon University. The subject of debate will be Prohibition. The teams) representing Victoria University College and Oregon University are splitting so that the audience may .have an opportunity of hearing American views on both sides of the question. .Messrs. Miller (Oreg.) Bannister (V.U.C.), and Miss Z. Henderson (V.U.C.) will move "That American Prohibition is a Failure," and the motion will be opposed b}' Messrs. Pfaff (Oreg), Wilson (Oreg.), and Mountjoy (V.U.C.). This debate will take place to-night in the Town Hall. The Mayor will preside. The vote of the audience will be invited at the close of the debate!
