ABNORMAL SITUATION

LONDON, Bth July.

In the House of Commons, Mr. J. H. Thomas, Secretary for the Dominions, in reply to Mr. P. J. H. Hannon (Conservative) said that for the three.years ended in December last, 238,025 persons migrated to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, of whom 148,815 were assisted.

During the same period 95,242 entorcd the "United Kingdom from the Dominions. It was impossible to say how many were returning.migrants.

■ Mr. Hannon asked: ."Would not reciprocal trade help the migration schemes?

Mr. Thomas replied: "For the first time the balance of migration has turned this way owing to the Dominions' economic position."

He added that he could not judge of future migration from tho present abnormal situation.
