NEGLECTED PEOPLE.

A complaint that the people of the Chatham Islands were being neglected by the Government was made in the House of Representatives early this morning by Mr. J. M'Combs (Labour, Lyttelton).

"I represent the Chatham Islands, which aro about 500 miles south of New Zealand," said Mr. M'Combs.

Mr. A. M. Samuel (Reform, Thames): "The honourable gentleman should be there."

Mr. M. { Combs: "The honourable gentleman who has interjected should be further south. He would then be almost in his own country."

Mr. M* Combs said that the people of the Chathams contributed about £22,000 per annum in taxation, and were being practically neglected. .
