ATHENIAN CLUB

A HAPPY EVENING

Despite the weather conditions of last evening,, there was an excellent ! muster of members and their . friends' I and visitors at the Wellington Athenian Club's Tooms, Pharmacy Building, Cambridge terrace.' -These fortnightly gatherings arc popular, and last night's arrangements were again completely successful. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Anderson wero host and hostess for tho occasion, 'and they" introduced many novelties for the entertainment of guests. Mr. Anderson is secretary of the committee. Mrs. Anderson wore a frock of flame georgette under a coatee of floral tissuo with a fur collar. There was a delightful air of informality about the proceedings, the rooms were warm and and tho evening passed all too quickly with dancing, a musical programme, supper, and competitions. Mr. Sherwood (president) sot the ball, rolling, and from then onwards there was. not a dull moment. The programme -was! contributed to by Miss Wilson (monologue) ; Miss G. Stark and Mr. W. Binet Brown (songs); Miss Madge Freeman and Mr.-Cedric Gardner (duologue). The presentation of little posies to the lady artists was a thoughtful act oh. the part of the hostess; whose graceful'courtesy was .appreciated. There were numerous dance. competitions, as well as a diverting balloon chase for the ladies, wou by Mrs. K'eaney. and Mrs. Sherwood."' The "Lucky Spot" was -won by Mr. Chambers and Mrs. Dee; tho "Lucky Number" waltz by Mrs. Pirie and Mr. Swinbourne; the "Monte Carlo" by . Mrs. .Scott ft. andMr. Montgomery. The singing of "Auld Lang, Syne" concluded the evening's entertainment. :..-.
