NOTTS MATCH DRAWN

ENDS IN THUNDERSTORM

NEW ZEALAND'S SHOWING

(Special to Press Association.)

(Kcceh-ed Bth July, 9 a.m.)

NOTTINGHAM, 7th July

A thunderstorm caused the abandonment of the match between Nottinghamshire and New Zealand at 3.45 p.m. New Zealand started the day badly, three wickets falling in half an hour with only 15 runs added to the score. After this the position improved, and when rain stopped play New Zealand's score was 259 for eight wickets. The match was drawn. Weir was caught at second slip off the third ball of the day, and Blunt was beaten by Barratt's off-swinger. Vivian snicked a ball from Voce into the slips. Barratt and Voee were both swinging appreciably. Dempster and Page settled down to retrieve matters, and the batting was steady juntil Dempster, making a weak shot, was caught at short slip. Lowry and Page continued to bat well after lunch, Lowry playing fine sliots to the off. Lowry was caught at mid-oii in attempting to* force matters against Staples. Pago batted steadily, showing sound defence, until he played outside an off-spinner from Barratt.

This bowler dismissed Allcott and Talbot in rapid succession, breaking the ball back appreciably. Cromb and James batted attractively until the thunderstorm occurred. Voce bowled much better than in the Test, concentrating more on the ball swinging away and making pace off the pitch. Details:—

Bowling Analysis.—Barratt took five wickets for 52 runs; Voce, one for 39; S.- Staples, none for 58; A. Staples, one for 40; G. V. Gunn, one for 60.
