PROVISION FOR WOMEN.
The suggestion that the portion of the unemployment .tax paid by .women should be devoted to the setting up of hostels was made by Mr. B. M'Keen (Labour, Wellington South) in ■ tho House of yesterday. Ho said it-was unfair that tho women should be levied without provision bo-1 ing'made for them, and he considered that their portion of the levy should be ear-marked for the establishment • of hostels. At these hostels the unemployed women could be maintained, and trained oh the same lines as they were by the T.W.C.A, The Minister of Health (the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy): "Why duplicate them?" Mr. M'Kcen: "I don't think that] the work is being done as effectively as it could be under this scheme."
