AWAPUNI NOTES
PREPARATIONS FOR
TRENTHAM
(By Tclooraph.) (Special to "The 'Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N., This Day.
Conditions, were so,, bad at Awapnni, yesterday morning, that the course proper was closed and what little. galloping was attempted was carried out on the hurdle track inside the rails. Oineo, who will not come in till the second day at 'irentliam, was partnered by SpeacmiES over a round on the flat, the last. six ■ furlongs'■ being left behind in Imiu 27 2-oscc. Omeo is steadily coining round. ~ Merry Damon (Miles), Merry Melody (X, Voilre), and CaUarnart (Broughtpn) left a niile behind,in. lnriu 37I''2-53ee"Ivith; out; bei. g asked ■to extend themselves. White Calladart had the inside miming, tho hurdler made a creditable showing. Trojan Melody (Miles) and Wallaruh (Broughton) jumped.uway at the sevenfui'longs post to ruu the last cix in Imin 2-1 l-ssee, both handling the going well. Llandudno (Broughton) finished stronger than Pahu (K. Voitre) after running seven furlongs in ltnin: 37 2-sscc, the first half-mile', being left behind in 55 3-ssec.; While Pahu . may not appreciate very heavy conditions, the Wavp'lano gelding was in no way distressed on pulling up. Llyn Dv (Bell) finished, better than Potoaform (Blanche) after' accomplishing a six furlongs task in linin 27 2-ssec. While Llyn Dv has dropped out of the Trentham Burdles, the Kilbrouey gelding maybe found coming in later. Potoaform will re-appear under-silk, at the Manawatu .fixture. '• ; ' . ....-■ Seneschal, (L. Gray) and Eoyal Black (Broughton) jumped away at the six-fur-longs post'and, timed from the five, came home in Imin 9 4-ssec —a vei'y fair effort. Seneschal finished well. Gueress (A. M'Donald) and Warzone (Bell) revelled in a gallop over six furlongs, while Gambler, and Star Girl also, evidenced that they are on the improve. With the hurdle track open to the fast workers, "what jumping that was attempted' had, perforce, to be executed over the big fences. ■ Red Fuchsia (M'Donald) did a round, jumping cleanly and without, effort. The old fellow was then sent a round on the flat to finish up. Comeroff (Blanche), who.looks in, satisfactory order after, his Hawkes Bay trip, likewise accomplished,a round'■very .satis-' factorily, atid then went on to do a, round of pace work, . .■-.'.-.' . The Demosthenes gelding King's Counsel (Blanche) showed in a round over country that he is, not -altogether a novice at the game. This 'Australian-bred gelding is a good cut of-a horse. ■ . : Braggart. (Miles) was given an insight : to. .the 'chasing.'branch. While the relative to. Paganelli .showed, a reluctance to take the brush jumps, he negotiated them at the second essay quite satisfactorily. Pangolin (Miles) did not display the tendency to run off he showed.on the Hawkes Bay circuit,. the chestnut negotiating a round quite well. The only-riding engagement which K. Voitre 'claims .at' Trentham .at present'.ls' Adverttus, on -whom • he: won ■at Napier: .Park.'-. ■■-■■ :,'■.. ;.'.-..: ■'.••■■■■ J. Barry, who has been associated with Seneschal in* both his Master ton and Otaki -victories,1' will' again pilot the Chief -Ruler gelding at Trentham. R. C. Mika will Tide Pangolin in the Matai Hack^teeples and Nukumai in the Wellington Steeplechase, white he will be associated with Merry Melody, in the Highweight Handicap at-Trentham. • ■■■■. ..-■■■. ■ Although Alan M'Donald' is still fooling, the effects of his, fall at Napier Park, he ■will in all probability be found carrying on'as usual at Trentham, where his opening day engagements include Coraeroll, . Red .Fuchsia, and Llandudno. T.. Green has. been-engaged for Little: Doubt and Manifesto,-on the day at .Trentham, while he mQ ride "Wallavuh in Ms second day .'engagement..,"... The hurdler.
