I , ■ ■-.-■.-... ■ : v •■-: x; I Reference wati made b/' Bishop Sprott in his presidential addressiat-the Anglican Synod yesterday afternoon to the earthquake disaster in.: Hawk'es Bay and to the enormous loss -of; .property suffered by the diocese _of Waiapu. Bishop Bprott, =said:— ', 'Though appeals are : being made almost daily for the large number, of .unemployed—appeals ■which' cannot, and must not be ignored—and though' ever)1; diocese has its own financial jdifficulties, we all, I am sure, feel that some-1 thing must be done'to help the'^reconstruction of the church in the devastated area. I know that our Waiapu friends realise our difficulties,.and they; are most grateful for any help: thai-'we can give. Up to date this diocese has been able to send them £903. I think it right to state that of this sum £500 has been given by one member of the church, who does not wish his Mania disclosed. I know that in, sdine at1 least of our parishes efforts are .--'still b"eing made, and I hope that ultimately] we may be able to send a consideraW* sum.'* " ■ -, .. «
