DOMINION'S TURN
CYCLONE COMES ALONG
The improved weather in evidence in ' most districts yesterday gave, way rap-, idly last night to unsettled, dull, and misty weather, rain setting in over nearly all parts of the country. This quick change was brought about by the rapid advance of a deep cyclone, the same that caused the recent stormy period in New South Wales. The centre of this storm area was located this morning to the west of Farewell Spit, with a consequent production in the Cook Strait area of heavy rain. By 9 a.m. to-day over two inches of rain had fallen since last night at Farewell Spit. Wellington had had CO points by 9 a.m. to-day, 61 points more falling between 9 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. Auckland had dull and mild weather yesterday. A north-easterly wind prevailed and some showers fell there last night. Wellington had a fine and pleasant day, but towards nightfall cloud increased and sliq rain commenced at 3 o'clock this morning. Christchureh enjoyed a fine" and sunny day, but the night was foggy. Three points of rain fell. It was fine, bright, and'cold in Duuedin yesterday. Strong northerly winds.are forecasted to roach galp force north of Cape Eginont and Castlepoint, fresh southeasterlies or sou'therlios prevailing elsewhere. Within about 24 hours there should bo a general backing of winds to tho south. Dull and misty weather with general rain may be expected. Many heavy falls are likely, with flooding in central districts. Mild temperatures will continue for a time over the North Island; but it -will,become colder about and south of Cook Strait.
