ELECTRIC POWER LINES

POSITION ON FARMS

A protest against electric" power boards being allowed to run lines across farms was made at, the conference of the New Zealand Farmers' Union to-day.

The following remit wan considered:— "That electric powei: boards be compelled to accept liability for loss of life and damage to stock on property due to the existence of power linos during and. after erection." Mr. J. Cocker (Eltliam) said it was wrong to allow power boards to put a wire across a farm. He knew of people who had had animals killed and had received no compensation. Mr. M. G. Trotter (Stratford) said lie would like the position determined as to what farmers could get in the way of compensation. ■ The remit, and another, that the Power Boards Act be amended to provide that on the questions of loans the practice be the same ,as is provided in the Counties Act, were affirmed. It was also decided to forward them to the Government.
