BOWLING
NEWTOWN CLUB
The annual ' report of the Newtown Bowling Club, remarks that; the year has closed- with a fairly satisfactory state of affairs in progress and finance. Deep-regret is expressed at the deaths of Mr. iW. ¥:■ .'Richards, a foundation member of the club, and of Messrs.' W. F. Newcombe, J. S. Reid, and A. F. Tonks. The season closed with a membership- of 90; new members would be welcomed for financial reasons. The mortgage of £640 on the property had been reduced to £500, and renewed for .1 further period of five years. The balance of the purchase money owing for the strip of land on the eastern side had also been paid, necessitating an expenditure of over £135. These transactions reduced the annual interest charges by over £13.
Owing to the wet weather during the spring and early summer, the green was on the heavy, side, which detracted from the enjoyment expected. The greenkeeper. Mr. Stephenson, deserved the thanks of the members for the energy displayed .in his endeavours to improve the surface of the green, and .for the attention- bestowed on the surroundings. The club's . property had been maintained'in good order.
. Thanks are accorded the green commit tee. the ladies, and the Press.
-Messrs. S. Phillips and J. W. Salmon were nominated for the positions of president and' hon. treasurer respectively, and being the only nominations for these offices, are declared elected.
