MOTOR COLLISION
DAMAGES CLAIMED
Proceedings in respect to a motor accident in the city were taken at the Magistrate's Court to-day by Hilda Mary "Withers, who claimed £21 3s from Mr. M. 0. Guthrie, as damages, on the ground that the defendant so negligently and unsEilfully drove a car at the corner of-Bunny street and Eeathcrston street that ho came into collision with the plaintiff's car. Mr. Guthrie, in' his statement of claim, denied liability for the accident, and counter-claimed for £55 Os 6d.
Mr. A. B. Sievwright, who represented the plaintiff, told the Magistrate, Mr. °*E. Page, S.M., that the collision took place on 11th April. The plaintiff's' taxi was being driven along Thorndon quay into Featherstbn street, and it then turned to the right into Bunny street. The night was dark and wet, and the evidence of the plaintiff would show that the driver of her taxi was going' at only six miles an hour. In turning into Bunny street he' went round the "silent policeman," and was about three-quarters of tho way across when a car driven by Guthrie at .1 high rate of speed came down from a southerly direction, and a collision fol lowed
The plaintiff alleged that the defendant Guthrie's ca/r was- travelling at an excessive rate of speed, that the defendant did not keep as near to his correct side of the road as possible, and that, he did not keep a proper lookout.
After the plaintiff's evidence had been heard the case was adjourned to enable the Magistrate to visit the scene of the accident. Mr. C. Bollard is appearing for Guthrie.
