OLYMPIC CLUB

Thirty-four runners took part in the Olympic Club's annual Grand Memorial Handicap at Lyall Bay. The race started and finished at the bathing sheds, and for the greater part of the distance the Vosseler Shield course was followed.

Prominent soon after the start were C. Campbell, D. Barn; J. Auld, A. Carter, and Bezar. After a mile had been covered Campbell was the leader, and he was followed by Barn and Carter. At tha divide through the hills; Carter closed .on Campbell, passing him on the trail down toward the golf links. A. P. Thompson and S. Williams improved their positions, Barn having fallen back a little. At the aerodrome fence. Carter was -well to the fore, Campbell keeping a respectable distance between himself and Thompson. Coming down Freyberg street Carter had established a formidable lead, and( won from Campbell, who was some 120 yards back. - .

The following were the results, the handicaps being given in parentheses:—A. Chandler (4min 20sec), 33min 46sec, 1; 0. Bezar (2min SOsec), 33min 50sec, 2; A. Carter (lOsec), and O. Fisher (3miu ssee), Carter (lOsec) and 0. Fisher (3min ssec), man home) won the pewter pot, mid jointly with 0. Fisher holds the Wilson Cup, being third equal in the handicap revision. A. Chandler holds the Philip Cup, aud A. Bezar the Burns trophy.
