SHIELD AND CUP RACES

The.Scottish Club held its annual teams race at-Hutt Park for the M'Villy Shield, Ten teams of foiir men Bach, which was a record entry, competed; and the fact that the race was a trial for the selection of the Kenneth Cup team made the contest a very keen one. L. Sinclair repeated his Le Gaye rose bowl performaucc, leading the field home iv ISmin 56sec.

The. three miles course covered what was -virtually one lap of the old championship course. -The going was heavy and in some places the runners were ankle deep in mud. The first seven runners to finish were the following:—L. Sinclair, 18min S6sec, ]; F. Silver, 19min, 2; A. L. Stevens, ltarin 7sec, 3; Olifent, 19 mm 33sec, 4; B. Lawer, 19min 35see, 5; H. Ellis, 19min 40sec, (i; E. P. Smith, 19min 4|sec, 7. The shield was won by the "J" team (E. P. Smith, captain 7th, C. Brown 14th M'Millan 15th, Stobba 27th),. total 63 points.' The "15" team (B. Lawer, captain, Clements, Badland, Price), 76 points, was second, and the "F" team, captained by H. Ellis, was third. After the event afternoon tea was served in the grandstand, and Mr. R. W. M'Villy, patron of the club, and donor of the shield, presented the trophy to the winning team. ■ • ■ : ' The selectors, Messrs. J. O'Neill, G. Zander, and L. G.
