Y.W.CA. BUREAU

Yesterday the CQQtli. .girl, registered as unemployed at the Y.W.C.A. Friendly Service Bureau for unemployed-.girls and women. v ■ - . -i • During the past week 03 offers of work were received, 28 girls were placed, 17 positions were filled lay girls not registered at the Y.W.C.A., 7 are under offer at present, and 25 are still on the books. It is gratifying to report that 203 positions have been filled. This means that work has been found for one out of every three girls who have registered. ■ Girls who ale not able to. call, at the bureau regularly are now asked to leave addressed postcards. These are used by the registrar 'when advising regarding likely positions. ■ All who receive cards are asked to , call immediately upon the prospective employer, and afterwards advise the bureau the result of the interview. If this is done in every case, it will facilitate the work of the registrars. The demand, has been chiefly for cookgenerals and girls capable of_ doing l^ght household duties,/ including cooking. Women are still calling at the bureau regularly in search of day work.1 As most of them have family responsibilities, offers of work will be gladly received. A number of clerks who have been out or work for months would gladly accept "compan-ion-help" positions. ■",!■■« The women who ip the work of'the mending and darning depot are still kept busily employed on two afternoons each week. Patrons who require garments altered are asked to supply the necessary material. In a few cases where the holes in socks have been extraordinarily large it has been necessary .to make an .additional charge to cover, the cost of wool. Purchasers have-been found for a few of the articles made' by the girls attending the handicrafts classes,, and there will be or sale of work later. . ■ ■ ■'
