RUSSIAN BUTTER IMPORTS
SWAMPING THE EMPIRE
LONDON, 23rd May. The real significance of Russian butter imports was emphasised by Mr. IT. E. Davies, London manager of the New Zealand Dairy Produco Board, when speaking at Cambridge. Mr. Davies drew attention to tho potentialities of the Ukraine, where dairies were reorganising on modern lines, including the use of fleets of motor-trucks, refrigerating vans, and tho importation of stud animals from all parts of Europe. Preparation was being m.'ido for a big increase of production under labour conditions which were not tolerable in the British Empire. All this threatened to swamp tho Empire within five years.
