MOVEMENT FOR MEMORIAL
FOUNDER OF EMPIRE DAY
(British Official Wireless.) (Received 25th May, 11 a.m.) BU.GBY, 23rd May. Empire Day celebrations, held to-day as the actual anniversary, 24th May, falls on a Sunday, included a big demonstration this afternoon in Hyde Park at which massed bands of the Brigade of Guards and a special choir led community singing, including Sir Edward Elgar'a "Land of Hope and Glory," wlich the composer himself conducted. A movement, headed by the Duke of Connaught, has been set on foot to erect a memorial window in St. Paul's Cathedral and a memorial in Hyde PaTk as tribute to the founder of Empire Day, Lord Meath.
