RAISING. LOANS
(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln your report of the Leader of the Opposition's fighting speech at Hauraki yesterday, it would appear that'the United Party can hardly be accused any more of: incapacity in regard to the raising ot loans when they have added £17,856,000 to the Public Debt in the last two years. If they manage" to maintain the Treasury benches for a while longer their promise to raise 70 millions will probably become an accomplished fact. During the last three years that the Leader of the Opposition was Prime Minister, his Government only raised the Public Debt by £23,582,----353. It would be interesting to know how many years or centuries will pass before tho loans are redeemed and the ultimate cost of same. Surely we are passing through a period of rising winds and whirlwinds.—l am, etc., F. DUNNING. 22nd May.
