PARTIES RETAIN SEATS
LABOUR VOTE REDUCED
(British Official Wireless.) (Received 23rd May, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, 22nd May. Results were declared to-day in Lwo by-elections. Mr. David Hardie, by a majority of 883, retained the seat for Labour in the Rutherglen Division of Lanark in a straight fight with a Conservative. In the Stroud Division of Gloncester the result v. ras: Robert Perkins (C.) ...... 17,641 Sir John Maynard (Lab.) . 10,688 A. W. Stanton (L.) 7,269 Conservative majority, 6953. At the last- election the Conservative majority was 5972. [The figures for Bntherglen at the last election were: —W. Wright (Lab.), 17,538; Captain Duffes (C), 12,249; I. MacDougall (Lab.), 2945; A. B. Moflatt (Com.), 842.]
