The London lamb and mutton market has improved during the week. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., London, 21st May, report as follows:— Lamb—Prime Canterbury, 2S/361b, 7 3-8 d; North Island, 23/361b, 7d; Canterbury, 3G/421b, 7V4d; North Island, 30/4211), 6^ 7-8 d; Canterbury, second quality, Ud; North Island, second quality, 5%d; Canterbury, 42/501b, 7 1-Sd; North Island, 42/501b, 6%d. Southdown lamb selling at a premium of Md. Market firm; demand better. Mutton—Prime Canterbury1, 48/561b, iVzd; North Island, 48/561b. 4>4d; Canterbury, 56/641b, P/td; North Island, OU/641b, 4 l-8d; Canterbury, 64/721b, 4d; North Island, C4/721b, 3%d; Canterbury ewes, 48/6411), 3%d; North Island owes, *4S/641b, 3 3-Bd. Market very firm, and tending upward; demand active. Australian lamb is also firm at u%d for g.a.q. to 4%d for third quality. Market for Australian lamb is firm; demand moderate. Australian mutton, g.a.q., 40/601b, SVzd; f.a.q., 30/551b, 3 3-Bd. Market for Australian mutton firmer; demand better. New Zealand prime ox beef, hinds 3%d, fores 2d; Argentine chilled hinds slAd,5 lAd, fores, 2%d. Market for New Zealand beef unchanged; demand poor. Pork—English porkers, SO/lOOlb, 9d; New Zealand porkers, 80/1001b, 5%d; New Zealand porkers, 100/120lb, 5d." Market for New Zealand pork dull; demand poor. The Bank of New Zealand produce department has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business this week:—"There is a good demand for wether mutton, and prices are advancing. The demand and prices for *.wes are improving. The market for lamb is firm with an upward tendency. The market for beef is depressed owing to an absence of demand. Wethers, light 4%d to 5d per lb, heavy 3%d to 4 1-Sd; ewes, 3d to 4d: lambs, 2's 7d to 7 5-Sd, B's 7d to 7 5-Bd, ,4's 7d to 7 5-Bd, seconds 6d to 6 3-Bd;.ox hinds, 3%d to 3Vad; ox fores, 2d to 2»/4d; cow hinds, 3d to 3Hd; cow fores, 1-ld to 2d.
Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following, cable from their London agents, dated 22nd May: "As compared with last week's quotations, North Island down lambs, best North Island crossbred lambs, and North Island second quality lambs, l-8d per lb higher. Best North Island wethers, under 481b 3-8 d per lb higher, 48-5611) %d per lb higher, 56-641b 3-8 d per lb higher, 64-721b 5-8 d per lb higher; North Island ewes, under 481b %d per lb higher, 4S-561b 5-8 d per lb higher, 56-721b %d per Ib higher. The market is firm, especially for mutton."
