FIGURES FOR MARCH

The shipping _and cargo statistics for March, which wore presented to the Wellington ' Harbour Board ut last evening's meeting, showed that the: total net tonnage of trading vessels arriving had decreased by 21,144 tons as compared with March, 1930—346,885 (368,020). In the following details the figures for March of -last year are given in 'parentheses: — General .cargo imports: From British and foreign ports, 15,393 tons (28,909 tons), decrease of 13,516 tons; from coastal and intercolonial ports, 21,757 tons (25,059 tons), decrease of 3302 tons. ■ General cargo transhipments: 17,332 tons (17,427 tons), decrease of 95 tons. General cargo exports: To British and fnreign port:!, 10,625 tons (9GG2 tons), increase of !)(33 tons; and to coastal and intercolonial ports, 16,300 tons (17,769 tons) decrease of J460 tons. ■Coal: Imports over wharves payin" "(Tik 8?' °775 *?^ (13' 02i tons>> decrease ot iW tons; and Government coal exempt irom wharfage, 6514 tons (5368 tons) inSwß6^.^^ overside, «097 tons (16,599 tons), decrease of 8002 Oils in bulk: Import?. 19,101 tons (4353 *°™)> increase of 14,715 tons; exports, 9488 tons (10.529 ton's), decrease of 1041 tons; transhipped overside, 1682 ton's (3888 tons), decrease of 2206 tons. Wool and hemp shipments: ■ Transhipped, 6133 bales , (8300 bales), decrease of 2173 bales; shipped from store and rail, 8968 bales (10,076 bales), decrease of 10,113 bales). Butter, cheese, and frozen meat shipments: Butter ex store, rail, and transhipped, 2002 tons (2048 tons), decrease of 46 tons; cheese ex store, rail, and tran-shipped,-5427 tons (4094 tons), increase of 1333 tons; frozen meat ex store, rail, and transhipped, 4070 tons (3937 tons), increase of 133 tons. , Grand total for month (all cargo brought to a tonnage basis): 138,562 tons (164,314 tons), decrease of 25,752 tons.
