STONYHURST YEARLINGS
:^s!»is hkssu-r's yenning* 'at; Sir Charles .■^.'iiTord's Stonyhurst : stud, Canterbury, are,, taken all round, an exceptionally good-looking lot, comments "Argus," and several of them should turn out" above the average. More than'usual interest .will attach to the present batch, as' they include the first of the progeny of' Day Comet since he took up his .quarters at this stud. This highly- successful, sire, now 21 years old, made his reputation with hovses who were given time, among them j being some great jumpers. , How ,'he .will shape as a sire of two-year-olds remains to be proved. Not many of his early progeny were tried as.youngsters, but from the well-bred mares at. Stony-. Iturst he will have every chance now to . earn distinction in 'a new direction. 1 .The list- of the youngsters is:— ' . ' . Streamline, brown fllly by. ' " ' "" ' Unnamed chestnut fllly by Day Comet from Gamebag, by Autumnus .from Kirrlemuir. A new policy is being tried with this season's draft, and all the youngsters will be broken in at the stud before.they are sent to join up with H. and A. Cutts's team at Chokebore Lodge, Riccarton. The stud groom, J. M'Cabe, has already made a start. Good Sight, Lucky Dive, Fleeting I Glance, and Pleasant Memory are well advanced in their education, and a start will be made shortly with Rocket, Drumfire, and the Gamebag filly. These seven are regarded as. the most likely to -come to hand early. The other four—Streamline, Dorian, Western Light, and Heatherglow—may require more time, so there is not the same need tohandle them at present. ' The juveniles include near relations to some good performers from the stud, and with their f,'ood looks they will attract considerable attention when they make fheir appearance at Riecarton. where the first of them are due next month.
