When Harry Bonald Wobb, a labourer, aged 37, appeared before Mr. j.B. Bago, S.M., at. the Magistrate's Court yesterdaj-j he pleaded guilty, to a charge of breaking and entering the shop of Doris Benson at 196 a, Lanibton quay, and stealing tobacco and other .goods valued at £9 3s 6d. He was committed to .the Supreme Court for sentence. Joseph George Wyeth, who was jointly charged'with Webb* entered a plea of not guilty, and was committed for. trial. In his case the Magistrate admitted him to bail on a bond of £100, with one surety of £100, the condition being .made that he should report daily to the police.

Detective Harding said "Webb aclmitted that be had broken into the shop, and he took witness to a house in Webb street, where he disclosed among his personal effects some of the stolen articles. The house in which Webb was living was occupied by the parents of Wyeth. In his statement to tho police Webb said that his reason for breaking into the shop was that ho had become desperate through not getting enough work to live on. When Wyeth was told that he was suspected of being connected with the robbery, he denied that lie had broken into any shop. When a search of the house was mado several tins of tobacco and a pipe were found. At the detective office Wyeth said that he had not actually broken into the tobacco shop, but was present and kept watch while Webb went inside.
