HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
The House oi Representatives met !H 2.30 p.m. to-day. j Mr. IV. Nash (Labour, Ilutt) intends 1n ask what steps have been taken to bring into operation the provisions of •the Disabled Soldiers' Civil Rc-cstab-lhhmcnt Act, 1930, and whether (1) any local advisory committees have boc'ii appointed; (2) whether any arj.uigpmcnt has been made with cmploycis for the employment of disabled soldieis; and (3) whether anything has been done by way of establishing and carrying on schemes for the vocational ti dining of ex-soldiers. Mr. W. H. Field (Reform, Otaki) gave notice to ask the Prime Minister whether, in view of the damage cione to bush in the. Hit tt Valley during the recent floods, he would prohibit the felling of further bush unless the land was needed for farming; Mr. W. Kash gavo notice to ask tho Prime Minister "what ,was "the Government's policy in regard to Civil Service employees who were being asked to retiro on superannuation. Mr. W. JS 7ash asked tho Prime Minister what steps the Government -wa? taking to prevent people unable to pay their rents through unemployment from being evicted from their homes. He particularly wanted to know what policy was being pursued in connection with Government houses. Mr. Forbes said that he liad not yet licen able to look into the question, but would be pleased to make inquiries. He asked whether Mr. "Nash, in. referring •to Government houses, meant houses •with State Advances Loans. Mr. Nash: "No. Houses under the Public Trustee."
Mr. Nash asked a further question of the Minister of Health as to whether -'lie will make a statement, set out the , steps the Government proposed to take Mo ensure that' the unemployed men and •women may obtain adequate food and shelter, and whether it is tho definite policy of the hospital boards to supply two meals per day only; whether board-ing-house keepers aro being instructed that only 9d per meal will be allowed. The Hon. A. J. Stallworthy said "that •the question of relief was in the hands of thevarious hospital boards.' Mr. W. E. Parry (Labour, Auckland Central): "It ought to be in. your hands.-" Tho" Minister said -that as the icrnilt of the extraordinary demand on metropolitan hospital boards he was at present- conducting conversations on proposals for meeting the demand.
