ST. LUKE'S, WADESTOWN
The annual meeting o£ -parishioners o£ St. Luke's Church, Wadestown, was held in the Parish Hall on Monday. The vicar, the Key. J. E. Ashley-Jones, presided over the largest attendance there has been for some years'. The vicar in his report referred to the steady progress, that had been made in the district during the past year. The report o£ the churchwardens and veatry, which, was read by Mr. R. Liggins, traversed the various activities <j£ the church, during the past year, and the financial statement read by the treasurer, Mr. E.."C. Kowe, showed a credit balance on the year's working. The monthly magazine which is sent to every parishioner's house, free of cost had just completed its first year of issue without becoming a charge on the vestry, this being the result o£ the excellent work rendered by tho committee, Mrs. Pope and Mr. Liggins. Officers appointed for the ensuing year are as follows: Vicar's churchwarden, Mr. 33. S. Withers; people's churchwarden, Mr. K. Liggins; vestry, Mrs. Pope, Mrs. Blake, Miss Battersby, Messrs. Goddard, Eowe, Clere, Hannah, Halse, Simmons, and Hemery; hon. auditor, Mr. G. T. Withers. In response to the Bishop's pastoral letter it was resolved to make a donation of £50 to the fund for. the assistance of the Waiapu Diocese in the restoration of churches and other buildings damaged by the earthquake, and to endeavour to raise further money for this" purpose. .
On the motion of the vicar a vote of frratitude to allthose in the district who had worked for the church in the past year was carried, and Hit1 i"«etiiiK was brought to a' close with si ; >pr.\ kindly dispensed by Mrs. Ashl.cy-,'!c:.. -.
