NOT THIS WEEK
END OF THE SESSION
WORK YET TO BE DONE
"Hopes had been entertained that the business of the present session of Parliament would bo concluded by the end of" this week, but it is now apparent that this is impossible. The- Government has not stated definitely whether it still intends to present its taxation proposals this session, but it is understood that they are to be deferred until next session. Tonight the second reading debate on the Finance Bill (No. 2), which gives .effect, .to somo .of tho. economy proposals, will bo commenced, and it is expected that it will occupy tho House at least for a couple of days- beforo it is sent'on to the Legislativo Council. • Tho report of. the Select Committee net up to consider the Earthquake Bill has not been presented yet, but the main points of contention contained in, . tho measure will probably have been met by the committee to tho satisfaction of all parties, enabling the Bill to proceed with comparatively little further debate. The promised ventilation of tho question of flour production aiul tho manufacture. and distribution of bread is being deferred from to-day,' to moot the convenience of certain members who aro unable to be present, and presumably an opportunity wilt bo given for a discussion at a later stage. Definite information is not available as to whether tho' Auckland Harbour Bridge Empowering Bill is to bo proceeded'with this session. The House will not sit next Satur-day,-which is Anzae Day, and if tho business is not concluded by midnight on Friday inevitably a . start will bo made on another week.
