BRITISH PROTECTION
MINORITIES IN INDIA
POLICY RESTATED
(British Official Wireless.) (Received 21st April, 1 p.m.) RUGBY, 20th April. In the, Housu of Commons to-day the attention of the Secretary for India, Mr.; Wedgwood Benn, was called to a resolution passed at the All-India Moslem Conference this mouth, and he was asked what action was being taken to assure Moslems that they and other minorities in India could always rely on British protection. Mr. Benu, in reply, referred questioners to the Prime Minister's statement of policy at the concluding meet--ing of tlie Round Table Conference. In the first paragraph of that declaration it was set out that the new Constitution must contain such . guarantees as were required by minorities'to protect their political rights. The policy of the Government in this matter was referred to by him on 12th March in the House of Commons when he made it clear that such guarantees must be provided in order that the new Constitution should start with the goodwill and confidence of all the communities concerned. That was the fixed policy of the Government.
