WORKS OF URGENCY (From Our Own Correspondent.) KELSON, 20th Aprik A college boy, Rex Griffiths, aged 14, of Wai'-iti, met with a gun accident yesterday in that locality, and as a consequence was admitted to the Nelson Public Hospital, at 3 o'clock, in the ' afternoon with a bullet wound in the stomach. His condition lato to-day was reported to bo serious. . ■ Mr. L. Taylor, fishing'in tho Wanga- " peka Eiver, caught a brown trout 71b ' in weight, in excellent condition,' and ! with \ery beautiful markings; He says that fish are to be caught in the ' river,, but not easily.. Two competitions have been brought to finality in the Nelson Club's bowling activities, the champion pairs and the i junior championship. ■ On ■ Saturday A. E. Dec and W. A. Doe played tho deciding game for the pairs with T. Hunter and G. L. Bees. The Deo brothers won, making the fifth occasion of their success, the previous ones being, in 1924, 1925, 1926, and 1927. The eightieth anniversary of . the Baptist Church was celebrated yester- • day. Special services were held. The . preacher in the morning was.tho fiev. , W. E. Lambert, president of tho New : Zealand Baptist. Union. The evening ■ service was taken by tho Rev. J. T. Crozier, of Petone. ■ In reply to a Departmental request, the # Nelson Education Board has- forwarded to "Wellington a list of, what are considered tho most urgent works ■ during the year. The ■ order •of preference is:—New school at Beefton; new school at, Richmond;' teacher's residence at Karamea; infants' depart-. • ment at Westport; school at Hope; 1 school, at Collingwood. The list was approved by board members. ; The j ; Minister of Education ■ has decided on i demolition of the brick building at ■ Spring Grove and the erection of another in wood. On Saturday afternoon, at the Nelson • Defence Bifle Club's weekly • shoot, Rifleman W. Martyn defeated Biflenian H. Prank, in the shoot-off for the Mitchener Cup, over 600 yards.. L. Gore 1 defeated J. Vitetta at 600 yards for 1 the handicap aggregate and Harris ' Cup. The Nelson Homing Club flew their annual face for young birds from Wa- '. nganui for the Hockey Shield.
