The shallow cyclone which " • covered the North Island yesjerday has apparently filled up, and the front of an extensive. anti-cyclone has since moved on to Now Zealand. The rise in pressure has been greatest from Cook Strait southwards and consequently Bouth-east or southerly winds have prevailed'and have been strong at places in tho North Island and tho Cook Strait area, but they have died down over tho South Island. Scattered rain accompanied the southerly yesterday in tho North Island and on tho cast coast of the South Island, while nifa weather prevailed in Westland. By this morning,, however, a fairly general improvement had set in, although cold temperatures wero still the rule.
