Barometer. —Yesterday, 9 a.m., SO.lOin; today, 9 a.m., 30.02 in. SYNOPSIS OF LAST 48 HOURS. During Saturday a few isolated showers fell in the far north and south and in western districts, but otherwise the weather was fair, mild and pleasant, with northerly breezes. By Sunday, however, a shallow cyclone hart moved towards Cape Maria van Diemcn, and the weather became unsettled over the North Island with dull, misty conditions Rain quickly spread from the North, and by Sunday night was fairly general in tlio North Island, many heavy falls occurring. Since last night scattered falls have been reported also on the east coast of the South Island. Northerly winds were still prevailing this morning north of Kawhia and Bast Cape, a northerly Bale blowing at the latter place. Thence southwards a change r,o southerJics has set in and the winds have freshened generally since last night.
