EVIDENCE OF NATIVES

(British Official Wireless.) (Received 20th April, S a.m..) . RUGBY, 17th April. Tho Joint Select Committee which is considering the question of closer union in East Africa ia ahort^ly to take evidence from aativo witnesses selected to represent various tribes and sections of opinion, in Kenya, Uganda, and the mandated territory of Tanganyika. The native Government of Uganda has also sent a -witness, - Tho witnesses, who represent more than 10,000,000 natives in iJast Africa, and are for most part chiefs or members of Native Councils, will arrive in England on 22nd April, and will stay about three weeks. During their stay they will fulfil an extensive programme, including visits to tho London docks, the Croydou airport, and the Schools of Torostry and Agriculture at Oxford, besides sightseeing and a number of social engagements. A section of the party will go to Lancashire to study tho cotton- industry. It is hoped that as well a,s facilitating tho work of the committee the visit will prove of instructive value to thq natives.
