PONEKE Poneke and Petone had a. good ma on the Petone Oval, even if the football was not always first class. Both clubs gave a number of youngsters a try-out, and some of these will probably be regularly seen in action in the senior grade during the season. Poneke turned the scoring opportunities that caran their way to better account than did the home team,, and won by 20 points to 1L The teams for the first half were:—Petone; J. Lambourne; Talk, Pollock, Peterson; ' Huxtable, M'Gurk; O'Halloran; Carr; Potts, A: Lambourne, Martin, Fell, Reid, Lind, and Wilson. Poneke: Pelham; Edgar, Brigden, Crisp; Griffiths, Windsor; Julian; Organ; Dickson, Jessup, Shearer, M'PhcrKon, Moore, Stone, and Quirke. For the second half, Clark, Spence, and Hassctt <\\ newcomer from Hawkes Bay) replaced Ueid, Wilson, and Fell in the forwards, and Briee and Wilkinson relieved O'Halloran and M'Gurk in the backs. Poneke brought Neale and O'Neill on in the forwards in place of Stone and Moore. Tries n-ero scored for Poneke by Griffiths, Jessup, and Organ, Shearer and Griffiths converting one each. In addition, Shearer kicked a penalty goal, and Crisp potted a goal. Clark, Peterson, and Valk scored tries for Petone, Pickard converting the last. Mr. G. Rathbon was referee.
