EASTBOURNE AND MIRAMAR.
A keenly contested game between two well-matched teams kept .spectators interested when Eastbourne and Minimal 1 mot at the Eastbourne Recreation Ground. Miraraar opened the match in great style, but Eastbourne came away towards the end with combined forward and back work that found gaps in Miramar's defence. Miramar had the better pack, but what advantage they gained from this was offset by the superiority of the Eastbourne backs. The teams were as follows: — Eastbourne.—Clarkj Brunton, Armstrong, Fuller; Chestcnnan, E. Koley; Coman; Price; Gibbous, Crightou, Sleep, Corlett, N. Dellabarca, Collins, Hargreaves. Miramar.—Athea; M'Nabb, Smith, Skjellerup; Condlifl'e, Thompson; White; Davidge; J. Clark, Calciuai, J '. Pinkerton, Haley, Murray, Jackson. Miramar, shortly after the kick-off, nearly scored. Pinkerton was unsuccessful in an attempt to kick a penalty goal. Miramar's efforts were linally rewarded when White crossed the line. Caleinai next distinguished himself by a smart follow-up, from, which he nearly Scored. He successfully piloted the ball over the bar when a penalty was awarded to Miramar. Eastbourne then strongly attacked. Only an infringement prevented Eastbourne from obtaining a certain try when tho forwards rushed downtield. Minimal: closed the spell liy pressing (in EastbournoV line, which tlu\v nearly crossed ffcvcrnl times, and were; only prevented at the last minute by Eastbourne's sound defence. Miramar team. J. Dcllabarea replaced Sleep, and Murray replaced Brunton in the Eastbourne side. Eastbourne did pot take long to get into their stride alter the resumption of play. Price scored a try, which Fuller converted. Murray next made a "ood run that resulted in E. Foley scoring. Davidfiu jiut Minimal' ahead again by scoring a "I|lC try al'lel' ll qlllck lollow" vi) The Eastbourne forwards) then went downficld with the ball at their feet, and when they were near the line Murray obtained possession and scored, J'uller converted. Miramar made strenuous cuoris to score but a surprise movement by Uie Kiistboiinie forwards caught them unawares, and .).
